Public Spaces and Streetscapes

Yerba Buena’s public realm is notable for its diversity, creativity and liveliness. The Yerba Buena Partnership funds streetscape programs – large and small — to improve our public spaces with artful bike racks, seating, public art, and more. Our goal is to enhance the livability, safety, vitality, inclusivity and sustainability of the district — to make an original neighborhood even better — with projects that have a defined purpose. Our Streets and Public Space Committee spearheads ideas and recommendations working together with the Yerba Buena community on these incredible projects.

Project Highlights

We identify areas of the community that can be elevated through beautification projects. Our Public Spaces Committee helps identify potential locations in Yerba Buena and through partnerships and advocacy efforts, works to transition community ideas into realities for all to enjoy. Below are the projects in which we are currently engaged.

Art All Around

With Art All Around, the Partnership is connecting artists to landlords of vacant storefronts to beautify the space in the interim of leasing to a new tenant. We have matched artists to three vacant locations and are ready to proceed pending final permission from landlords and artist proposals.

  • 735 Market: We have been working with A3 to develop a window covering that may be still or include a digital screen element.
  • 120 4th St.: We are working with local artist, Charlene Tan, to display some of her sculptural art in the windows.
  • Contemporary Jewish Museum: The CJM has connected us to artist Leah Rosenberg who had work showing at the CJM recently and who created the Local Color seating the Partnership sponsored on Natoma St. Art will be window coverings, and may also include a digital screen element.

5th and Harrison Dog Park

The Partnership has ordered equipment for the park, including a fountain, bag dispenser/trashcan, and leash post. The items will be painted magenta to match our new neighborhood brand. Public Works has broken ground on the project and will be sharing a construction schedule soon, which may also have volunteer opportunities.

Local Color Installation Refresh

Every other year we repaint Leah Rosenberg’s Local Color installation. Be sure to stop by to take in the freshly painted space!
