Shaping Public Spaces, Fostering Neighborhood Culture

Yerba Buena Partnership is proud to lead and collaborate on community-driven placemaking projects in public spaces. From a mural that enlivens an entire block to a thoughtfully placed bench that provides a resting point, each effort contributes to a more clean, safe, beautiful, and vibrant neighborhood.

Get involved! Our Public Spaces Committee meetings are open to the public.

Current and Upcoming Projects

Completed and Ongoing Initiatives

Public Art Installations

Yerba Buena neighborhood is home to the highest concentration of public art in San Francisco, filling each block with beauty. Explore the neighborhood’s fantastic collection of public art, both permanent pieces and temporary installations, that add a bit of inspiration along your walking routes.

Parks + Plazas

Yerba Buena Gardens, managed by Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy, is the largest park at the heart of Yerba Buena neighborhood. In the surrounding blocks, experience other plazas and places to pause, connect and build community.

  • Along Market Street, you’ll pass by Annie Plaza north, a pedestrian plaza brought to you by Yerba Buena Partnership in collaboration with local businesses, property owners, and San Francisco Public Works.
  • Have a dog? Bring your four legged friend to our pet relief area at Third and Folsom streets.
  • Previous pilot projects include Annie Plaza south and parkmobiles throughout the neighborhood.
Streetscape Amenities

Yerba Buena’s streetscape amenities are designed to bolster our neighborhood’s cleanliness, safety, and vibrancy. As you move through our streets, enjoy pedestrian wayfinding signage to help you find your way, benches to break when you need it, and regularly placed trash cans to lighten your load. Cyclists may access our artful bike racks and SFMTA's secure bike hangars.

Activations

There’s always something happening in Yerba Buena! Yerba Buena Partnership creatively brings fun activities to our streets throughout the year.

  • Mark your calendars for every first Thursday of the month, when Downtown First Thursday takes over Second Street with a vibrant night market, live musical performances and DJs, and more.
  • Join us for seasonal Entertainment Zone block parties, where those 21+ may enjoy adult beverages in public spaces during events with DJs and entertainment and all-ages festive fun.
  • The Partnership supports these activations through Community Benefit Fund Grants, funded through property assessments, and Activation Grants, with the support of the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development and the Mayor’s Office.
