Dito Kami, created by artist ChiChai, celebrates sisterhood and the historical and ongoing contributions of Filipina women to San Francisco, brought to life through Philippine trinkets and flora set against a fusion of an old MUNI bus and a jeepney (the colorful public transport vehicle iconic to the Philippines). Along an edge of Yerba Buena Gardens, the mural blends cultural symbolism with local transit history into a vibrant tribute to Filipina identity and legacy.
This mural is part of a series of expansive murals along 4th Street by four Bay Area artists that transformed blank concrete walls along Yerba Buena Gardens into a tapestry of Yerba Buena’s and SoMa’s ethos in 2023-2024. The series includes Woven Kultura by Dee Jae Pa’este, Sanctorum by Mel Vera Cruz, Dito Kami by ChiChai, and Day Dreamin’ by Dre Sibayande.
