Details

This striking 36-by-36-foot art glass art on the southeast façade of the historic Williams Building at the St. Regis San Francisco features a transcription of a painting by the late Oakland artist Raymond Saunders (1934–2025). Raymond Saunders was an American visual artist known for his multimedia paintings which often have sociopolitical undertones, and which incorporate assemblage, drawing, collage and found text. Saunders is also recognized for his installation, sculpture, and curatorial work. Fused, etched, and cast using colored and dichroic glass, the piece shifts color with the light and angle of view, visible along Third Street in the Yerba Buena Arts District, near SFMOMA.
