Bound with PRIDE: A Panel Discussion is a virtual event exploring the intersection of book art, identity, and material resistance, presented as part of the Hand Bookbinders of California’s 53rd Annual Members’ Exhibition. On Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, join artists and a moderator for a discussion centered around a unique project: transforming pieces of a historic Gilbert Baker Rainbow Flag, which once flew over San Francisco’s Harvey Milk Plaza, into original book works. The panel will share insights into their creative process, personal reflections, and the challenges of working with this symbolically rich material. The event includes a video showcasing the finished books and a candid discussion about how the artists honored the flag’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of book art. This event offers a compelling look at contemporary book art connected to history and identity. Registration is $15.
