Members see it first! (Re)discover one of Henri Matisse’s most iconic works, a portrait of his wife, Amélie, which shocked audiences with its bright colors and seemingly carefree brushstrokes, becoming a defining image of Fauvism.

This exhibition will shed new light on how Matisse’s painting — now an icon of the museum’s collection — made its mark on art history. Positioning Matisse in dialogue with his peers and followers, as well as artists working today, the exhibition will examine in greater depth than ever before the painting’s historical context, subject, circulation, and impact.

This exhibition will require timed tickets, and members are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance. Reserve your free tickets by following the ticket link above and logging into your member account.
