Newest ‘Let’s Glow SF’ Light Projection To Debut at Hip and Historic Annie Alley Nightly December 6-15 in Downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Neighborhood
Yerba Buena Partnership Adds a Three-Artist Light Show to the Downtown SF Partnership’s 4th Annual ‘Let’s Glow SF,’ the Nation's Largest Holiday Light Projection Event
Newly Renovated Annie Alley, between the storied Dawn Club and Palace Hotel off Market Street, Will Come Alive with Art, Drink and Food Offerings for All Ages
San Francisco, Calif., October 25, 2024 — The Yerba Buena Partnership will debut a new large scale light show at hip and historic Annie Alley as part of Let’s Glow SF, the United State’s largest projection show illuminating iconic locations in downtown San Francisco with art from local and internationally renowned artists.
“This event brings tens of thousands of people downtown to energize the area in support of local businesses and cultural institutions. It is a testament to the power of public art in strengthening the city’s cultural and economic fabric,” said Scott Rowitz, executive director of the community benefit district Yerba Buena Partnership. “The Annie Alley installation adds to Yerba Buena’s compelling attractions that are transforming downtown with new festivals, art exhibits and great bars.”
Yerba Buena’s Let’s Glow SF installation features three large-scale projections set to music at the newly renovated Annie Alley off Market Street between the popular Dawn Club jazz venue and the historic Palace Hotel. During the outdoor show, there will be drink and food offerings for all ages. The artists include:
- “Pulse of Nature” by Henry Hu showcases the integration of nature and urban environments with shimmering tree tops, bioluminescent organisms and a finale of floral blooms, among many dazzling images.
- “Shards of the Eternal Winter” by artists at Dirty Monitor invites viewers to see winter in a new light as ice and vegetation intertwine in a harmonious and luminous dance as winter’s icy canvass nourishes and emerges into a lush landscape of plants, flowers, trees and animals.
- “Qxeen of Seasons” by Jeff Dowbrow has its Qxeen awaken to playfully bring the seasons into being as her manifestations explore winter from a perspective of magic, color, growth and discovery.
Let’s Glow SF is produced and organized by the Downtown SF Partnership. The free outdoor holiday event that includes installations in the Financial District, East Cut and Yerba Buena neighborhoods. The 10-day event runs December 6-15 nightly from 5:30 pm-10 pm and uses high-tech projectors and lasers to project large-scale animated light shows by 13 artists across building facades, including the Ferry Building and the top of Salesforce Tower, among its seven locations.
Before taking in Let’s Glow SF, Rowitz encouraged attendees to spend the day enjoying Yerba Buena’s expansive outdoor public art collection, museums and shopping and dining. Yerba Buena alone has more than 65 public art pieces, including works not part of Let’s Glow SF that light the night like Hank Willis Thomas’s “LOVE OVER RULES” on Jessie Street and “Point Cloud” by Leo Villarreal at Moscone Center.
The nonprofit Yerba Buena Partnership is the community benefit district that manages and maintains the neighborhood emanating from Yerba Buena Gardens and located within the larger Filipino Cultural Heritage District. It is one of the city’s most compelling districts, boasting renowned destinations such as SFMOMA, the Contemporary Jewish Museum, YBCA, MoAD, Children’s Creativity Museum, Moscone Center, Berggruen Gallery and Crown Point Press. All of that, as well as premier hotels, Academy of Art University, City College, and dining, shopping and entertainment venues.
In addition to Annie Alley, Let’s Glow SF locations include the Ferry Building at 1 Ferry Building, 101 California Street, Pacific Coast Stock Exchange at 301 Pine Street, One Bush Street, 425 Folsom Street, and Salesforce Tower at 415 Mission Street. Each building’s video projection, using techniques with light, colors and music, will tell an enchanting story that celebrates the holiday season. There will also be a Let’s Glow SF art installation at East Cut Crossing at 250 Main Street.
The Downtown SF Partnership, the community benefit district that oversees 43 blocks across San Francisco’s Financial District and Jackson Square Historic District, collaborates with A3 Visual on Let’s Glow SF as part of citywide efforts to activate downtown’s public realm and is partially funded through an economic recovery grant from the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development and Office of Mayor London N. Breed. Local participating retailers and businesses will offer themed drinks and bites for Let’s Glow SF attendees throughout the 10-night event.
