Over the past decade Mae Powell has earned a sterling reputation as a winsome singer-songwriter who can also put a personal, jazz-inflected stamp on American Songbook standards. She keeps company with some of the finest players in the region, musicians she counts among her best friends. Last year Powell released her second album, Making Room for the Light, a gauzy, late-afternoon skinny-dip of a session featuring her ethereal originals. She’s focusing on this folk-inspired material at the Gardens, bringing a taste of the verdant natural setting where she recorded the album in a Vancouver Island-adjacent studio
