Details
Erica Dawn Lyle is a multihyphenate artist, author, organizer and musician, and on November 6 she will gather all of this energy and intention into extended improvisations for the electric guitar. Lyle is totally at ease with the guitar, she just sinks right into it. She knows every sound she can get out of her instrument, it’s a kind of virtuosity and ease that keeps listeners in awe for the entirety of her sets. These songs are churning, looming, dense with detail. Feral? At the very least, wild. During her live set, everything is visible: Lyle leans forward and the squall goes from menace to question; she leans back and the tiny slivered notes coalesce into storm. Lyle’s decades of experience playing in art-damaged punk bands includes playing guitar for Bikini Kill from 2019-2023; Land Trust: Benefit for North East Farmers of Color, the 2022 collaboration with Vice Cooler which featured guest appearances from Alice Bag, Kim Gordon, and the Linda Lindas; and countless shows and records with the bands Allergic to Bullshit and Onion Flavored Rings. Lyle’s performance at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts coincides with the release of her solo LP, On Fire, issued by Feeding Tube and Half a Million Records.
